About Us

Just a little bit about us... We (my husband and I) are the parents of eight children. All ours, all single births. Their ages range from 23 to almost 3. (I am also a - *whisper* - grandmother :} ) Our youngest, Sam, has Down Syndrome. The story behind that is on another page.

Although I am a nurse, I do not claim to be a medical expert in the area of Down Syndrome (or any other area for that matter). Everything I have learned about Down Syndrome has come from books, internet, other parents, Sam's therapists, and his physicians. The rest I learned from being mom to eight children.

Most of the developmental information you will find on this site (i.e. helping your child toward achieving a certain milestone) can be used for kiddos without disabilities as well as those with a disability. Even non-disabled babies learn faster when they are motivated, whether it be by a bright and noisy toy they are reaching for, or simply your undivided, hands-on attention. All kids benefit from a little extra help.

That said, here is the 'must have' disclaimer (applies to all pages within this site):

**The information on this website is not intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice. Rather, it is for educational and informational purposes only. You, the viewer, are responsible for obtaining health care for your child from his/her physician and other health care specialists. Always consult with your child's doctor before beginning any therapy programs.**
