Mixed Hearing Loss and Sensorineural Hearing Loss in Down Syndrome

Sensorineural Hearing Loss in Down Syndrome

This type of hearing loss is permanent whether your child has Down Syndrome or not. This type of hearing loss is caused by damage to the cells of the inner ear or to the auditory nerve itself. Hearing aids can help improve hearing in this situation.

Mixed Hearing Loss

As you may have guessed, a mixed hearing loss involves both conductive and sensorineural problems.

In Down Syndrome hearing is vital. Yes, there are other means of communicating, but you want your child to reach their full potential, right?! Just make sure your child has regular hearing checks and if he or she happens to have a problem, get it corrected as soon as the doctor says it can be done.
